Parents @ Play: Strategies to limit bedtime battles
Getting the kids to go to bed - and actually stay there - can be one of the most challenging parts of any parent's day. The best solution is to have (and keep) a good bedtime routine. But what's a harried mom or dad to do when the routine doesn't work?...

Once I got there, I weighed my chickens (Each group gets 5) and I weighed the feed bag and blah blah blah you don’t care about that part. I was forewarned not to name any of the chickens and to only go by their ankle numbers because they only have a week longer to live (the tough part of being an animal science major). I was in that mood to go do some track type workouts and holy moly that was a workout. Allison (my hallmate from Montana) and I did circuit workouts on the straight part of the track. Then I went to the grassy part in the middle of the track and did some ab exercises. It was about four o’clock when we walked to the track and the sun was shining but it wasn’t humid which is a change from a South Carolina summer. The normal weather here is similar to fall in SC because it’s cool in the mornings but around 2-4, the sun is out and radiating but the cool wind throughout the day prevents you from feeling too hot. You won’t feel like you’re getting burnt because of the wind and clouds but when you wake up in the morning, surprise. But it’s nice because right now you can wear pants, shorts, dresses, skirts, sweaters, t-shirts, or a jacket and feel good for most of the day.
Overview of the ADA concerning service animals: http://www. gov/service_animals_2010. Service animals are defined as dogs that are individually trained to do work or perform tasks for people with disabilities. Guide Dog: When one thinks of a service dog, they tend to picture a dog wearing a guide handle and the handler wearing sunglasses. The handler does the directing and the dog guides them to the destination safely. Hearing Alert Dog: These dogs are specifically trained to alert their handler with hearing loss to specific sounds such as a doorbell, their name, alarm clock, etc. These dogs make physical contact with their handler in order to alert them. Although hearing alert dogs can be of any size, they tend to be a smaller breed. Medical Alert/Response Dog: This is probably the most versatile type of service dog. These dogs are trained to alert to certain medical conditions such as diabetes, seizures, narcolepsy, migraines, syncope (fainting), blood pressure changes, and much more. These dogs tend to pick up on their handler’s condition(s) without training, but the behavior as to how they alert is taught.
If you find you need to drag yourself out of bed in the morning, and feel an urge to whack away at the snooze-bar on your alarm clock (possibly dislodging a few items from your bedside table in the process), then you’re likely not a morning person. If you’re a non-morning person who has recently embarked upon a career path that will require you to get up much earlier than you’re used to, or if you’d just like to increase your productivity early in the day, then you’ll need to adjust your... Lay out your clothes, organize your lunch and snacks for the following day, and pack anything else you need in your luggage/briefcase/backpack. The last thing you want in the morning is to squander precious minutes hunting around for important items, or (even worse) realizing you’ve forgotten something after you’ve left for work. In that community, as in many parts of Central America, locals both go to bed and rise quite a bit earlier than I was accustomed to in Canada. This is partly because farmers in pastoral areas are obliged to begin their work early in the day. But it’s also a function of the day-night cycle in regions near the equator, where the duration of daylight hours varies little over the course of a year. There is a useful lesson here for those of us who live in cities and industrialized areas: if you’d like to go to sleep and wake up earlier more easily, try to isolate yourself from bright lights and noisy appliances at least half an hour before...
