– Original artworks by Andy Warhol and Marc Chagall – two of the most famous and highly sought after names in the world of fine art – will come up for bid on Saturday, August 8th, at a sale of the contents of one of Mississippi's most stately... Frank Nichols, the current owner of Lauri Mundi, has decided to sell his dream home, nestled in a beautiful 18-acre sanctuary in historic Aberdeen,” said Dwight Stevens of Stevens Auction Company, the Aberdeen-based firm conducting the sale. ” Lauri Mundi is for sale, but it it isn't in this auction. The Warhol work is a synthetic polymer and silkscreen ink on canvas, purchased by the seller's grandmother, a serious art collector, from a Canadian art gallery in 1985 and descended in the family ever since. It is a stylized rendering of Warhol's friend and contemporary Coco Chanel, the French fashion designer and founder of the iconic Chanel brand. The rare, authentic and one-of-a-kind piece measures 15 inches by 17 ½ inches (sight) and has the original estate stamp from the artist's estate to the gallery label on the back. The piece is 13 inches by 14 inches (sight) and is in a gold gilt frame. In addition to the items owned by Dr. Nichols, the auction will also feature select pieces from estates out of Morganza, La. Jackson, Tenn.
ATLANTA, Ga. – Two signed lithographs by famed American Pop Art icon Roy Lichtenstein (1923-1997), three works by the noted Mexican artist Leonardo Nierman (b. 1932), and a signed lithograph by renowned Colombian artist Fernando Botero (b. 1932),... The sale will be conducted by Ahlers & Ogletree, in the firm's gallery at 715 Miami Circle (Suite 210) in Atlanta. 8th session will focus on modern and contemporary works of art, design and furniture. 9th session will feature outstanding Atlanta estates, including those of Sam and Florence Inman, Charlotte Topping Smith and Henry J. Muecke, Jr. More than 1,050 lots will come up for bid over the course of the two days. Start times for both Saturday and Sunday will be 11 a. m. Eastern time. The signed lithographs by Roy Lichtenstein are both from 1969. One, titled Pyramids, is an artist proof color lithograph on paper, pencil signed and dated. The graphic image in yellow and black depicts three large pyramids in Giza, Egypt. The other, titled Repeated Design, is a color litho on paper, pencil signed, dated and numbered (33/100). It depicts three repeated geometric patterns. A star lot of the Leonardo Nierman triology will be an acrylic on Masonite board titled Bird of Paradise. The work by Fernando Botero is an offset lithograph in colors on woven paper, pencil signed and numbered (123/200), titled La Toilette (1983). It is a bedroom scene, showing a nude woman tending to her hair in the mirror.
