This HP laptop will stand out in a dorm room
The processor is a dual-core Intel Celeron N2840, which is clocked at 2.16 GHz with burst to 2.58GHz. Backing that up is a measly 2GB of RAM, so we'd caution against trying to run multiple programs at the same time. As far as graphics go, the Stream ...

With freely available services like Gmail, Dropbox, and Google Docs you can accomplish tasks online that once required both a powerful laptop and expensive software. It's no surprise then, to see a raft of low-cost laptops that take advantage of this, asking you to pay for the bare minimum and letting these free services take care of the rest. The new HP Stream 11 (MSRP: $199. 99) isn't the first, of course, but it's a rare bird in that it runs the full version of Windows 8. 1, providing a tantalizing alternative to the similar—but more limited— Chromebooks on the market. While you can do more with Windows 8. 1 than you can with Chrome OS, the Stream is still limited by its small form factor. Its size—and HP's need to keep the price low—mean it won't be able to handle more intensive tasks beyond web browsing, document editing, or watching some Netflix. Of course, there are still plenty of limits. Luckily, there's an SD card slot, so you can add a microSDHC card with a low-profile adapter to double or triple that amount for under $50. On the outside, there's just no confusing this for anything but a cheap laptop.
NEW YORK — Apple refers to the new MacBook as the future of the notebook. It weighs just a hair over 2 pounds, making it the lightest notebook that Apple has ever produced. With an edge that tapers from 13. 1mm down to a mere 3. 5mm, it is also the thinnest. The company has also managed to cram a full-size backlit near edge-to-edge keyboard into what is a very compact keyboard. Apple designed this new keyboard with what a "butterfly mechanism" approach that it says is 40% thinner than than the "scissor" type keyboard app that is typical. The keyboard has a very different feel to it and while I got relatively comfortable typing on it following a not-too-lengthy getting to know you period — I wrote this column using it — it won't appeal to everyone. Meantime, there's a new trackpad here, built around a concept Apple calls "Force Touch. " As the name implies, it means that the trackpad can detect the amount of force that you are applying when you click, press or drag your fingers along its surface. Apple is also using Force Touch on the new Apple Watch as well. But again this takes getting used to. At times I wanted to hold down the trackpad to select some text to move around or copy, but found myself applying too much force.
The Apple Watch may have gotten all the pre-event attention, but a sleek new MacBook with improved display and battery life got its share of oohs and ahhs. Prices start at $1,299 for a model with a 1. 2 GHz dual-core Intel Core M processor, 8 Gigabytes of memory and 256 GB flash memory storage. Reaction on Twitter was immediate, where #MacBook continued to trend long after Apple's press event in San Francisco: The MacBook had the look. Vince Ferreira (@vFerreira_XO) offered up that Apple chief designer. Ben Bajarin, an analyst with Creative Strategies, tweeted: "The MacBook Pro 13 has generally been Apple's best seller. I think this new MacBook may be the new king. Holding it to the side, he asked, "Can you even see it. ". Referencing its lightness, Cook added, "I can't even feel it. ". Then, Apple's senior vice president of worldwide marketing Phil Schiller explained how the redesigned keyboard is more...
