Mark Bradford is the tallest artist I know—six feet seven and a half inches, and pencil thin, which makes him look taller. It’s my using a particular moment and abstracting it. ”. For someone who had just spent sixteen hours on an airplane, coming back from the Sharjah Biennial, in the United Arab Emirates, Bradford seemed unnaturally well rested. He was wearing a white T-shirt and white painter’s pants, his working clothes, which he buys online for himself and his assistants, two of whom are from the same Mexican family. “When people see us on the street or at Home Depot, they think we’re housepainters,” he said, happily. Most of Bradford’s art supplies come from the Home Depot. “If Home Depot doesn’t have it,” he said, “Mark Bradford doesn’t need it. ” Although he hasn’t really used artist’s paints or brushes since he was in art school, what Bradford makes are abstract paintings. He starts with a stretched canvas and builds up its surface with ten or fifteen layers of paper—white paper, colored paper, newsprint, reproductions, photographs, printed texts—fixing each layer with a coat of clear shellac.
How in the name of foie gras did two men bring down The Four Seasons, the once-great eatery that still personifies the power and glory of New York City as no other. The Four Seasons’ lease at Rosen’s Seagram Building is up in July 2016. Rosen says he won’t renew it but wants to bring in a different restaurant. Meanwhile, Niccolini and co-owner Alex von Bidder are searching for a new location while Rosen hopes to mess with Philip Johnson’s classic design. What a pitiable, infuriating, possibly final act for an institution that has been synonymous with Ludwig Mies van der Rohe’s landmark Seagram Building — and all that’s to cherish about New York — since 1959. A relocated Four Seasons is better than... They own the name and even if Rosen opens a new eatery at Seagram, there’d be no question which was the “real” Four Seasons. But Niccolini’s alleged oinky antics can only make it harder to reopen — tying up his time with lawyers as the clock ticks and giving prospective new landlords second thoughts. Niccolini might well be innocent, as he says he is. But even if he’s exonerated, his jolly, often glad-handing management style traced an ominous undercurrent beneath the rippling, aluminum-chain curtains.
Fans are bliss for us sweat-ers. Do you have a personal mini fan. One is electronic and connects to the USB port in my laptop, and has a nice little spot on my desk. It’s for when I come into the office every morning and beads of moisture have formed on my nose and sweat is dripping down my neck. I use it all the time, even in the winter. ) The day it breaks is the day I go out and buy another one ASAP because I do not know life without my mini USB fan. Here is my mini USB fan. The other one is a folding hand fan. The one I currently use was a wedding favor that I procured last year. (On that note, if you’re getting married and need an idea for favors, FANS. I’m tellin’ ya. ) It has a permanent spot in my purse, and I use it when I’m on the subway platform, in the subway car, waiting outside a restaurant for a friend — heck, sometimes I even use it when I’m already in the restaurant. In December, the fan cracked in half and in an act of sheer desperation, I used packing tape to cobble it back together. Oh, so you don’t spend this much time thinking about fans and ways to keep cool. Chapter 1: The Struggle I’ve been a sweat-er for as long as I can remember. Why is there moisture coming out of every single pore of my body.
