hen Stuart Murdoch reconstructed C86 twee pop in the mid-90s and made a Brit-blagging cult success of it, he ensured that future historians would record indie as a genre of vegetarians weakly strumming songs about getting stood up outside arthouse... But his still waters supposedly run deep, and as he arrives at the Westminster scene of the leaders’ debate and opens a showcase for their politically charged ninth album Girls in Peacetime Want to Dance with Nobody’s Empire – which talks of... As Murdoch, who loves to dance but shouldn’t, shuffles like a focusing high-jumper to the fey Pulp of The Party Line and guitarist Stevie Jackson wields a keytar like a pike while dressed as Moss from The IT Crowd, it all feels like a fresher’s... They’re upstaged by their own visuals – Perfect Couple’s entrancing modern dance film , for example – and Murdoch’s absorbing persona: he shuns crowd suggestions of running for parliament because “they’d have to give me a fishing boat full of... Sturdier melodies such as We Rule the School and I Didn’t See It Coming work far better, and the show picks up steam when Murdoch drags a stageful of girls and a few plucky geek blokes on stage to dance to The Boy With the Arab Strap.
BAY CITY, MI -- When theater goers leave the upcoming Bay City Players production of "The Sound of Music," director Kurt Miller hopes they walk away humming the tunes, not marveling over the lavish set. "I wanted to concentrate on the music," said Miller. I added two (musical) numbers because we had such a vast number of singers who are so good. The Players close their 97 season with the classic at 8 p. m. April 30, May 1-2, May 7-9. 3 p. m. May 3 and May 10, and 2 p. m. May 9. The May 9 matinee was added due to robust ticket sales. In fact, fewer than 400 tickets total remain for the performances. Tickets are $22 for adults, $20 for senior citizens and $10 for students. Meet the cast With 160 people auditioning for "The Sound of Music," director Kurt Miller had his work cut out for him, narrowing the cast to 38 performers, 21 who are new to the Bay City Players stage. But he's also a playwright, and you have the opportunity to see one of his most amusing works at The Carnegie where The Underpants is onstage through April 26. That simple, quaint title reflects the genteel world of Dusseldorf, Germany in 1910.... Just before the play opens, Louise (Erin Ward) has been watching a parade. She snatched them up, but the wardrobe malfunction was seen by enough people to stir up a minor scandal as well as the prurient interest of a few men in Dusseldorf. Louise's self-important husband Theo (Randy Bailey), who is a low-level government bureaucrat, is convinced their reputations will be ruined. and Klinglehoff (Tom Manning), an absent-minded gentleman — and at least two of them have ulterior motives, having observed Louise watching the parade. Theo, ever self-centered and oblivious to the undercurrent, is interested only in the rental income. " Louise saucily asks Theo at one.
