We recently received an email alert from our Sunday school class that a couple of members are allergic to perfume. The note did not suggest that all the women in the class forgo wearing their favorite scent while at Sunday school. I suppose the decision to wear or not to wear perfume is up to the spiritual inclination of individual class members. Nor do I know if the aromatic alert is also directed at male class members who might be wearing aftershave. Some years ago, my wife and I were touring the Art Gallery at Morehead City when a woman approached me and said, “I know this sounds crazy. But do you mind if my husband smells your wife. “Well, you see,” she continued, “I walked by her a few moments ago, and she’s wearing the most alluring perfume. If my husband likes it, I’d like to purchase some. “Honey,” I teased when I walked back to my wife, “there’s a man over there who wants to smell you. My wife told them she was wearing Estee Lauder’s “Beautiful” perfume. Rejection trauma As the last person chosen by the team captains in my kidhood cow pasture baseball games, I can imagine the rejection Alexander Semin must feel. Semin, in effect, has been told by the Carolina Hurricanes to go away. When I mentioned the matter to my wife, she said, “When I left N. C. State after more than 30 years, they gave me me a little clock.
The Episcopal Church and its local diocese have pitched a settlement offer that would allow 35 parishes that defected in 2012 to take roughly $500 million in church properties with them in a bid to end the long-running ecclesiastical split that... The offer to end a protracted legal battle would include some of Charleston’s most historic colonial parishes: St. Philip’s and St. Michael’s churches in downtown Charleston, Old St. Andrew’s in West Ashley and Christ Church in Mount Pleasant. In exchange, the national church would keep the Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina name and identifying marks, along with St. Christopher Camp and Conference Center , the bishop’s residence and trust funds worth several millions. Charles vonRosenberg, bishop of the diocese that remains with the national church, said he hopes the offer is a step toward reconciliation. “You be who you are, and we be who we are, and let’s be brothers and sisters in Christ,” vonRosenberg said. However, Lewis sees little reason to negotiate given a Circuit Court judge ruled strongly in their favor earlier this year, saying they had the right to leave and take their properties and the Diocese of South Carolina name and marks with them. It seems prudent to see that to the end,” said Lewis, canon to the ordinary for the Diocese of South Carolina, a group led by Bishop Mark Lawrence that left the national church in 2012. Episcopal Church Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori...
The 27-year-old rookie became the second goalie in NHL history to give up no more than two goals in each of his first 12 starts, and the Ottawa Senators beat Carolina 2-1 when Mark Stone scored 4:46 into overtime Tuesday night. Maybe (the NHL) caters to my game a little bit more," Hammond said. "Now that I've made a few adjustments and added a little bit more structure to my game I've been able to kind of think the game a little bit better," he said. For me, a big part of my game is just reading the play and maybe that helps a little bit. Hammond made 35 saves to outduel the Hurricanes' Anton Khudobin, who stopped 31 shots but lost for the first time in six career appearances against Ottawa. "Any time a guy can come in and have an old coach coach him and he (ties) a record from before the old coach was even born, you go back a long way. And the victory came in a tough building for the Senators, as Carolina is 11-0-2 in its last 12 meetings with Ottawa at PNC Arena. "That's one of the most exciting overtimes I've ever been a part of," Carolina coach Bill Peters said. Elias Lindholm gave Carolina a 1-0 lead in the first.
