Me And My Big Mouth

I try to read the opening chunk of all of them. Irvine Welsh - The Sex Lives of Siamese Twins. I haven't managed to finish an Irvine Welsh novel since Trainspotting —and I found that a bit of a struggle, to be honest—but I was happy to give this one a go just in case he had eased up on the frenetic fuckery. Welsh wouldn't know subtle if it stood up in his soup and pissed in his face. The chapters she narrates annoyed the fuck out of me. The chapters narrated by her biggest fan, the woman who filmed it all, are less annoying but much of them are in an awful 'handwriting' font. You'll know if this is for you from the first paragraph or so. It clearly wasn't for me. Michel Laub - Diary of the Fall. Typography and layout can significantly influence the way I read a book. The font I mentioned above was a bit of a distraction and I would have struggled to read more than a few pages in that style. This book, on the other hand, was presented in short(ish) numbered paragraphs and, for whatever reason, that made for a most pleasurable reading experience. It has gone straight onto my To Be Read pile and I hope to finish it off soon.

Cinderella (2015)

Here's the awful truth: there's not much left to say about the fairy tale "Cinderella. " This is a story that has been told, re-told, re-made, re-worked, and re-imagined so many times that its basic beats are ingrained in the popular consciousness. There's a girl who is treated poorly by her wicked stepmother and buffoonish stepsisters, is visited by a fairy godmother, attends a royal ball and catches the eye of a prince, and, after a kingdom-wide search to find the owner of the glass... So the latest version of this tale doesn't bring any drastic change to the latest retelling. Ella (Lily James) lives a happy life with her parents (Hayley Atwell and Ben Chaplin) in an unspecified kingdom. But when both parents die, she is left in the care of her callous stepmother (Cate Blanchett), waiting on her and her stepsisters Drisella (Sophie McShera) and Anastasia (Holliday Grainger) hand-and-foot. little does she know that Kit is actually the Prince. When Kit decides to throw a ball for the entire kingdom in an effort to find her again, Ella - with help from her fairy godmother (Helena Bonham Carter) - attends against her stepmother's wishes, and. Instead, the film goes above and beyond, becoming something that's at once exactly what it's supposed to be and something unexpected.

The story of Cinderella has been told time and time again, yet somehow director Kenneth Branagh managed to create a stunning twist on this classic fairytale. Branagh took the story we all know and love and created “a masterpiece” through lavish costumes and set design, seamless acting and brilliant use of mise-en-shot. Cinderella tells the captivating story of Ella (Lily James) as she faces all the trials in finding her happy ever after. The story opens with a young Cinderella (Eloise Web) with her father (Ben Chaplin) and mother (Hayley Atwell) in their beautiful country home. Before her untimely death her mother tells a young Cinderella to “have courage and be kind,” a theme heavily carried throughout the film. As Cinderella grows up she struggles to honor her mother’s words while facing her cruel stepmother (Cate Blanchett) and stepsisters (Sophie McShera and Holliday Grainger) that treat her more like a servant than a sister or. The role of the... Cates’s incredible acting ability is accented by costume designer Sandy Powell’s femme fatale costumes for the stepmother. From the quick wit back and forth between the stepsisters to the love at first sight between Cinderella and The Prince.
