in old mice reverses pseudohypoxia and metabolic dysfunction. Researchers gave the mice a compound called nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide or NAD for a week and found that the age indicators in two-year-old mice were restored to that of six-month-old mice. That would be like turning a 60 year-old human into a 20 year-old. They hope to test the compound in human trials in 2014. How will our culture deal with age reversal. Will we want our 25 year-olds to age-reverse to pre-teens. Will we set limits on who can age-reverse. One thing is certain, age reversal will happen. True age reversal in humans by 2025. Uh, guys. You’ll have no way of knowing that in another 11 years, when plenty of people alive today will survive that long without “age reversal” any way. We can only observe success by looking in the rear-view mirror, so to speak, after a whole lot of people have lived well past 120 years, and in good shape. And that rules out acquiring that knowledge by arbitrary years in this century because these dates fall within current life expectancies. If you can read this in 2014, and you will recall reading it in a year like 2214, then you might have reasons to congratulate yourself on your radical life extension efforts.
After spending hours and hours with it, I believe this beautiful new touch-screen device from Apple has the potential to change portable computing profoundly, and to challenge the primacy of the laptop,” Walter S. Mossberg reports for The Wall... “It could even help, eventually, to propel the finger-driven, multitouch user interface ahead of the mouse-driven interface that has prevailed for decades. In his extensive full review , Mossberg covers many areas, including, but not limited to:. • The iPad is much more than an e-book or digital periodical reader, though it does those tasks brilliantly, better in my view than the Amazon Kindle. • I’ve been using my test iPad heavily day and night, instead of my trusty laptops most of the time. • My verdict is that, while it has compromises and drawbacks, the iPad can indeed replace a laptop for most data communication, content consumption and even limited content creation, a lot of the time. • I was impressed with the iPad’s battery life, which I found to be even longer than Apple’s ten-hour claim, and far longer than on my laptops or smart phones. For my battery test, I played movies, TV shows and other videos back-to-back until the iPad died. The iPad lasted 11 hours and 28 minutes, about 15% more than Apple claimed… Oh, and all the while during this battery marathon, I kept the Wi-Fi network running and the email downloading constantly in the background.
“Steve Jobs dazzled the crowd Monday with one of the iPhone 4’s snazziest features: an ultra-high-resolution display that puts to shame any other cell phone on the market,” Christopher Null reports for Yahoo. “With a resolution of 960 x 640 pixels, the iPhone 4 crams more graphical ability into a 3. 5-inch diagonal space than any other gizmo on earth,” Null reports. “With a density of 326 pixels per inch, Jobs claims it’s better than the human eye can even detect at a standard viewing distance. In other words, if Jobs is correct, you’ll have to hold the phone right up to your face to see the iPhone 4’s pixels at all. Apple is also touting its optical lamination process, which basically adheres the glass directly on top of the LCD so there’s no gap between the two,” Null reports. “As Displayblog explains, this ‘improves sharpness and clarity of the display by eliminating light refraction, which is caused by the small distance between the glass surface and the LCD that exists on pre-4 iPhones. “It works by arranging the crystal structure within the LCD such that the crystals are parallel with the glass screen above. Traditional LCD screens have crystals at odd angles, which decreases brightness and makes viewing at odd angles difficult, but IPS corrects that problem by creating order from the chaos.
