BOYD — It’s not exactly the cutting edge of technology, but the folks over in the All Saints Parish three churches are pioneering a new media outlet for their community. Recently the parish, which includes Holy Family Church in Stanley, St. Joseph Church in Boyd and St. Rose of Lima Church in Cadott, established a radio station, call letters WASB-LP, that operates out of St. Joseph Church’s basement. But area residents, and anyone driving by on Highway 29, can pick up the signal at 96. 5 FM. Deacon Ned Willkom of Cadott has been tuning in. “It’s something I’ve enjoyed waking up to instead of my alarm clock,” he said. The 60-year-old, newly-retired dentist has been leading the effort to get the station’s signal going. The radio station falls under the jurisdiction of the Federal Communication Commission’s Low Power FM radio service. Low power stations are limited to a maximum signal of 100 watts which, according to the FCC’s website, should limit their range to between three and five miles. And Willkom said that he’s heard that listeners have been able to tune in east of Thorp. Both Chippewa Falls and Menomonie are home to stations and Eau Claire has three LPFMs. But as far as Willkom knows, 96. 5 FM is the only parish-based radio station.

Disagreement broke out among the three of us. According to the newspaper, the person wrote that Huskins was in good health and would be returned safely the next day. “I showed her an article on her kidnapping, and it included a plea from her father and reflected how worried her family was. She began cryrng as she read, and I said something like “I know, seeing it in print must make it feel like this is really happening to you.
We gave it out for Monday night and when we got up that morning there was a ten-inch snow. Mildred and Esta Lena were the only girls besides us — and Harlan Powell, Arlie Stafford, Ward Smith, Carl Reed and Joe Sallee were the boys. And we surely must have, because some 56 years later, between the four sisters, we can remember every detail of that Valentine Day Party in the snow. But they agreed to the party with only Mama to chaperone, because during the war years, you never knew what tomorrow would bring and happy moments were grabbed and cherished. Alfa was 16, Alma 14, me 10 and Leona was 6. The party was for my older sisters. They gave out the party by word-of-mouth in the community and mailed penny postcards to those invited from the neighboring Whiteville community. Since Daddy took the car, the radio and even the alarm clock with him, we felt pretty isolated all week and were really looking forward to the party. Alas, we got up that morning and there was a beautiful, fluffy white 10-inch snow on the ground. It was a long, long day of gloom and doom. But just before dark, here came our neighbor girls, Esta Lena and Mildred Dearmore, tramping through the snow. Mildred had on her Dad's old buckle golashes and Esta Lena had pulled a pair of his work socks over her shoes.
