, Kevin Lynch accepted a job offer from Apple. So intense is Apple’s secrecy that all Lynch knew was his vague title, vice president of technology, and that he’d be working on something completely new. ¶ It was odd that Apple even offered him a job. During his eight years at Adobe, most recently as chief technology officer, he was best known as the only person dumb enough to publicly fight Steve Jobs over the iPhone’s lack of support for Flash videos. When Lynch announced his move, the reaction was immediate: They want this guy. Apple blogger John Gruber called Lynch “a bozo, a bad hire. ” Lynch had a lot to prove—and, apparently, a lot to do. When he showed up at 1 Infinite Loop on his first day, he was instructed to skip the usual new-employee orientation. There was a design review in two days, he was told, with the Apple brass. There were just experiments—the iPod crew had made something with a click wheel—and lots of ideas. The expectations, however, were clear: Apple’s senior vice president of design, Jony Ive, had tasked them with creating a revolutionary device that could be worn on the wrist. After all, over the past 15 years, Apple has upended three major categories of consumer electronics and, in the process, become the most valuable company on Earth. There were MP3 players before the iPod, but Apple made you want one.
The watch is the first ever Apple product where the tech’s identical in each model and the only thing you can customize is the way it looks. Apple Watch is a tick forward, but I don’t think the technology and apps are life-changing and I have actually sent my watch back. I was worried it would just attract dust in my study, instead deciding to stick with my traditional watch and trusty iPhone 6 Plus. It’s about more than just fashion – it’s about bringing technology to bear in unsticking the biggest problems in our society – but still with Apple style. Apple Watch: It’s “Complicated” Apple’s newly anointed Chief Design Officer Jony Ive says that the new watch borrows from centuries of watch-making traditions. To the watch face itself are added ‘complications’ – tiny widgets that, in addition to telling you the time, add extra bits of information such as an alarm, date, temperature or calendar appointment. ‘Complications’ are a tradition watch-making term. But it seems extraordinary that Apple Store employees have been instructed to boast to customers trying on the new watch that it supports “ 2 million complications” – or ways of personalizing your watch face.
The company revealed its new GeForce GTX Titan X not with a massive event, not with a coordinated marketing blitz, but by CEO Jen-Hsun Huang striding unannounced into Epic’s Game Developers Conference panel , introducing “the most advanced GPU the... The $1,000 Titan X truly is the bestest, baddest, most firebreathing single-GPU graphics card in all the land—and it’s the first one able to play many games on high detail settings at 4K resolution all by it’s lonesome, with no multi-card setup... Huang stayed vague on tech specs when he revealed the Titan X at GDC, only teasing that the graphics card contains 8 billion transistors and 12GB of memory. That extreme amount of memory led some to believe the Titan X would be a dual-GPU card, like AMD’s Radeon R9 295x2 or Nvidia’s own Titan Z. Nope. Built using the same energy-efficient Maxwell architecture as its GTX 900-series brethren, the Titan X packs a whopping 3072 CUDA cores—compared to the GTX 980’s 2048—along with 192 textures units. The card comes clocked at 1000MHz, with a boost clock of 1075MHz. That 12GB of onboard RAM is clocked at a speedy 7Gbps—just like the GTX 900-series graphics cards—and it utilizes a 384-bit bus. AMD’s high-end Radeon GPUs use a wider 512-bit bus, but slower 5Gbps memory, for comparison. Physically, the black, aluminum-clad Titan X rocks three DisplayPort connections, a solitary HDMI 2.
