The summer has already brought dozens of motorcycle riders into the Montana Avenue brewery to sample craft beers, but this week should be even bigger. The BMW Motorcycle Owners of America is holding its annual rally Thursday through Saturday in Billings, bringing thousands of people to town and giving a big shot in the arm to bars, restaurants, hotels and other service businesses. Organizers expect about 7,500 riders in town for the weekend, and about half will stay in local hotels and motels. For comparison, that’s nearly double the amount of people who come to Billings for the state wrestling tournament in February, typically a top weekend for the hospitality and service industry. Visit Billings, the tourism arm of the local chamber of commerce, has been urging businesses to welcome the visitors warmly and make a good impression so they’ll think of Yellowstone County for their next vacation. Businesses are posting welcoming signs, offering discounts and planning events to help BMW riders enjoy their stay. “Locals and businesses should remember they are the first impression for tons of visitors.

Levi mourned the early death of his dear mother his entire life, whom, as he wrote, he had lost at “…about 16 years old — an age when a child fully realizes such an irreparable loss. Soon after Dolly died, Gordon Hutchins sent Levi off to Governor Dummer Academy in Byfield, Mass.
