Slept and read and slept and read and watched an on flight film. Slept and read and slept and read and wondered how long until. Got picked up by our bearded friend waving from his parking spot. Ate it atop a concrete wall at the beach and dropped my fork. Hopped into my swimsuit and stepped into the warm water. Waded past a sea turtle who wouldn’t dare be bothered. We swam and swam and ooohed and ahhed at the fish that freckled sea floor. We dodged sea urchins and kept our legs workin’ over coral and back to the sea shore. Windows down and breeze strong, we drove to a secret spot. Then the sun set and rose, and I sat with sandy toes hoping to catch glimpse of a dolphin. I devoured a pastry and a chicken sandwich on our way to watch Kilauea plume. We went to Jaggar Museum and walked through the volcano tubes. When the sun went down the breeze picked up and temperatures got low.
Blurry splashes of moving colors whizzing by. Rushing movement of people scattered along the subway line. Pulsating sounds scramble the focused mind. Sounds of the city, jolts the heart alive. Inside Out. The sounds of the names yelled. Don’t let people tell you. Inside out. Would you rage against the storm. If only for a chance to touch my hand. Through tornados that form. Spits you out onto wet sand. When you put my needs before your own. Then my heart will come home. Then I could be yours. Don’t dwell on you’re sadness. The blues won’t last. When you can say you love me unconditionally. And keep my name in your heart faithfully. Then I could be yours. This heart. Banged up, bandaged. Still has blood coursing through it. Flowing like a lake. This heart longs to be. With someone who aches.
When the end of the world came to the vast majority of humankind the better half of a decade ago, most people were taken by surprise and simply stopped what they were doing and everything remained exactly as it was the moment the world fell apart... Others took the time to follow their routines and made sure to switch off the oven, put the cat outside for the night, and lock all the doors. An alleyway ran down the side of the building and I ducked down there. Around the back, there was a dirt car park with a single Toyota parked in it with grass growing up around it to the height of the wheel arches. The biggest issue I had was the noise that was going to be made when I kicked the door in. With any luck, if the mob heard it, they would be too thick to work out how to get down the alleyway around to the back door. I stepped up to the door, lifted my right knee up as high as possible and then planted the flat of my foot against the door as close to the deadlock as I could, putting everything into it with a thrust of my hips for good measure. What made it worse was the door flying open, slamming into the wall behind it, bouncing off and slamming against the splintered door frame again.
