One Denver block buried under up to 4 feet of hail
Up to 4 feet of ice buried all the territory between Dakota and Alaska — streets, that is. In some ways, it was "gi-normous," freakishly so. In other ways, it was microscopically small. The hail that pounded the neighborhood between 10 and 11:30 p.m ...

Jolted into reality when the tornado began tossing a pickup truck and trailers like tumbleweeds Thursday as it barreled toward his home on Blue Mountain Avenue in Berthoud, Allmendinger scrambled to his son-in-law's house next door and into the... "(The tornado) was like a freight train coming through," he said. It came and came, and it just didn't stop. It looked like a dollhouse — the tornado had completely ripped off the northern wall. We just saw light come through," said Brandon Scott, Allmendinger's son-in-law and the home's owner. Allmendinger said he thinks the tornado eclipsed the floods of September 2013. On Friday, the family was busy cleaning up both properties, joining many others at work. The tornado crushed three homes beyond repair and damaged another 12 homes and multiple barns, sheds and outbuildings to varying degrees, according to the Larimer County Office of Emergency Management. On Thursday night, northern Boulder County saw two tornadoes touch down, and 7 inches of rain fell east of Lyons and north of Ute, officials reported. And homes weren't the only victims — Weld, Boulder and Larimer counties reported concerns about roads and waterways, including Colorado 66, South Boulder Creek and Little Thompson.
A Visit to the Upchurch Farm I get to meet some pretty awesome people in my job, and the Upchurch family is no exception. I first visited the Upchurch Farm in January to interview William Upchurch and his dad, Billy Upchurch. Last week, I visited the farm again, but, this time, I visited Mr. Billy Upchurch’s wife. Upchurch showed me a barn of antiques and told me the story of how she met her husband. Upchurch’s antiques, I’ll share the story of the barn in which they all rest. The barn, pictured below, was moved to the Upchurch Farm in 1976 and rests right beside Mr. and Mrs. Upchurch responded to a newspaper listing to inquire about the barn, she was surprised to learn that she knew the family who was selling it. The Antiques Inside Many of the antiques in the cabin were found by Mrs. Some of the other antiques in the barn included an old milk pail, a candle holder from Mr. Upchurch’s uncle, an old wooden ironing board, handwoven baskets, an old meat grinder, cobblers’ tools that were used to repair shoes, a corn sheller, a... Upchurch pointed to some of the furniture in the cabin–a table with chairs, an old stove and a spinning wheel, and said that, “The year of the Centennial, the agriculture department wanted this furniture to make a little area at the state fair, so...
A sign proclaims it’s the only Salt and Pepper Shaker museum in the world. Thanks to owners Andrea and Rolf Ludden, you can see 20,000 sets of shakers here and another 20,000 in Guadalest. Andrea was an anthropologist interested in everyday life in the 20th century when she bought her first pepper mill at a garage sale in the 1980s. From there, she moved on to shakers. Thirteen years ago, when the collection outgrew the Luddens’ house, they opened a museum in Cosby, Tennessee. When the shakers outgrew that museum two years later, the Luddens moved to the Gatlinburg location. The salt shaker’s invention dates to the 1920s. Its history may be linked to Morton Salt, whose slogan – “When It Rains It Pours” – promised salt that would be free-running even in damp weather due to the addition of magnesium carbonate. The museum’s first room houses a collection of Christmas shakers: a wall of Santas, gingerbread men and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeers. On another wall are hundreds of Amish shakers: chickens, farmhouses, wood-burning stoves, cows and old-fashioned irons.
