Four Key Takeaways from the Wizards' sweep over the Raptors
In Games 3 and 4 he hit momentum-changing shots (often early in the shot clock) to cut the lead or get the pendulum swinging back the Wizards' way. In yesterday's game John Wall, Bradley Beal, and Marcin Gortat were all rock solid as well. If the ...

Big challenges in Martinsville
The potential exists for any driver to get roughed up in the half-mile bull ring environment. Make no mistake about it, Harvick is the best driver in the Sprint Cup series today, but he's going to a track where the pendulum swings in the favor of a few ...

Stability equals playoff appearances
Whoever is right about this call -- Dallas would have been better off to rush, convert and continue to milk the clock, aiming for a touchdown that would leave Green Bay no time to reply. Doubly sour. Sweet 'N' . The Colts now own the wild-horse cry ...

The most obvious way of doing that would be to overswing the pendulum and take away the vote from the fans entirely. Giving the media, coaches or players the decision-making power here would probably resolve the problem, but it may cause others....

Remember the buildup that happened leading up to every race preceding the Spanish Grand Prix and how everyone wondered how the pendulum would swing, either in Ferrari's favor, or in the favor of the Silver Arrows of Mercedes. The Mercedes were quicker all season long, had better traction by a small margin, and better aerodynamics and a lot more power in qualifying, but in race trim, the power was pretty similar to Ferrari's, but crucially the tire management on the... All season long, keeping those things in mind, the conversation has sounded something like this, "Yea, Mercedes are faster, but the Ferrari is better on its tires", which has crucially given Ferrari and their fanatically loyal tifosi hope that... Mercedes brought forwards a lot of updates to bolt onto their car to counter the Ferrari, but Ferrari came with what effectively was a B-spec car, with over 70 percent of the aerodynamics on the car being redone. I for one really thought Ferrari were going to be major contenders at this track, given how well they ran in winter testing, coupled with their technical department seeming to be firing on all cylinders as they have been up Mercedes nose week in... He's been getting his clock cleaned by Lewis all season long, and he's seemingly had no answer.
Even the most optimistic Wizards fan would never have predicted that. Regardless, this team flipped the switch and ended Toronto’s season real quick (Drake's voice). Just like the Wizards, Pierce struggled mightily since the All-Star break. Randy Wittman rested him the last few games of the season to get him ready for the playoffs and boy was he ready. Yes his game one performance was great, yes his late three-pointers in Game 3 were huge but his poise and leadership trump all that. Sometimes, players go overboard to try and prove to the crowd they aren’t affected when in reality, trying to prove to the fans you aren’t affected shows you are affected (counterintuitive huh. Not once did Pierce force anything in this series (ok maybe a few heat checks). Not in this series and specifically not in either game in Toronto. In Game 1, he hit a three-pointer to start overtime. In Games 3 and 4 he hit momentum-changing shots (often early in the shot clock) to cut the lead or get the pendulum swinging back the Wizards’ way. In yesterday’s game with the Wizards up nine and the Raptors making a mini run, Beal found Pierce in the corner (early.
Not only will Sunday be the fourth straight AFC title appearance for New England but it also will be the 12th consecutive AFC championship featuring the Patriots, Steelers, Colts or Broncos. Of the 24 entrants to the AFC title game in those dozen years, 18 were the Patriots, Steelers, Colts or Broncos. Only three other AFC teams have made a title appearance during the period, while nine of the AFC's clubs, the bulk of the conference, have not reached the title game at all. But the domination of recent AFC Championship Games by four teams shows that stability matters more in football than may be appreciated. Stable situations at head coach, secure starting quarterbacks who stay the same year-to-year -- these are benchmarks of teams that have dominated recent title rounds. First, consider recent AFC title games. 2004: Patriots versus Colts. 2005: Patriots versus Steelers. 2007: Colts versus Patriots. Title games sprinkled throughout that period have included Colts-Jets, Patriots-Ravens (twice), Steelers-Ravens, Steelers-Jets, Steelers-Broncos and Patriots-Chargers.
