Indeed, the Downtown--Tulsa S & J Oyster Company oyster bar has gone through some changes recently in which this article (Scott Cherry - Tulsa World article "Review: New chef adds New Orleans flavor to S&J Oyster Co. ") discusses. HOWEVER, A *KEY NOTE* MISSING from this article is the fact that (as co-owner) Michael G. Denson played a HUGE ROLE in designing and directing the *REVIVAL* of S&J Oyster Co. through the NEW Tulsa--Downtown location. To clarify, in 1983, Howard and Sandy Smith opened the first S&J Oyster Co. in Tulsa. As a favorite oyster bar of many locals, S&J later opened locations in Kansas City, MO and Fayetteville, AR. Moving forward, in 2011, after the original S&J Oyster Co. had been closed for several years, *Howard Smith* approached *Michael G.... Therefore, Michael G. Denson should be credited in this article as a *strong driving force* in the REVIVAL and co-ownership of the NEW Downtown--Tulsa S&J Oyster Co. oyster bar. --(Jamie Denson | Life Solutions - Jamie Denson | Life Solutions: Life-Coaching, Hypnotherapy, NLP, Mind-Body.
We—my family, I mean—were in bumper-to-bumper traffic on our way to my mother-in-law’s house for Sunday lunch when our phones flashed red and the Alert sounded overhead for the second time that day. Once the three of us were safely crouched down on the hot road beside the car, Neal distributed the headsocks—our name for the gas masks—and I turned around to make sure Sarah had her straps tight enough for a good seal. “I can do it myself, Mom,” she said, already irritated, because the mask would ruin her makeup and also because she’d missed church that morning. “I’ll try to remember to keep a quilt in the car from now on. ”. We were going to be late for lunch. No way around it. We made this trip every other month, a ritual going back to the early years of our marriage: Sunday lunches with Neal’s mother, Edina, and his twin brother, Cecil, and Cecil’s unfortunate daughter, Mira. I wasn’t sure if he could hear me over the noise: This is an Alert. This is an Alert. Have you ever wondered whose voice it actually is. Did they pick a random guy off the street to record the Alert, or did they listen to a thousand audition tapes before settling on that relaxed, bassy timbre. It’s a voice that surrounds you, wraps you up like a soft blanket. The AlertBots blasting the message at you are way up in the sky—I realize this—but sometimes it sounds as if the voice were right there beside you, or even inside your own head.
Look beyond the dust, scuffed wooden floors, peeling paint, stacked lumber and messy debris of a site under construction, Donna Ignasz says. The Inn at Duck Creek is not yet ready to open as a tavern and upscale "farm-to-table" restaurant, but its work-in-progress potential isn't difficult to imagine. Taking visitors on a tour of three 18th-century buildings at East Commerce and North Main streets, an intersection known as Smyrna's Four Corners, Ignasz shows off the good bones – the six fireplaces, arched church windows and various rooms of... The Inn at Duck Creek is part of the continuing transformation of Smyrna's historical district. Smyrna officials have said activity in its once thriving downtown – shipbuilding had been a prominent business after the town was settled before the American Revolution – began dwindling with the construction of the now-defunct Blue Hen Mall in... The bottom floor, once an antique shop and, before that, Vance's Barber Shop for nearly five decades, will house the tavern, she says.
