Tick tock: Is it time for a shot clock in Idaho high school basketball?

There is something so delightfully romantic about getting postcards from abroad. Yesterday I received one of Melk Abbey, in Austria, from an American friend who spent the month of March touring Europe. Austria is down on my list of places I want to visit before I am old: this is partly due to growing up with “The Sound of Music”, and even more so to the charm of Eva Ibbotson’s Austrian novels ( Magic Flutes is a particular favourite). As I admired my postcard, something about it rang a bell. And then I realized I’d read a description of it several months ago, in Patrick Leigh-Fermor’s A Time Of Gifts. When Leigh-Fermor was eighteen, he decided to walk across Europe, all the way to Constantinople. Sometime in mid-January 1934, while on his way to Vienna, he stopped at Melk. The pages in which he describes his memories of the place are truly marvellous – armchair travelling at its best. It was Melk at last, a long conventual palace cruising above the roofs and the trees, a quinquereme among abbeys. Afterwards, it was in confused musical terms that the stages of our progress strung themselves together in my memory. Overtures and preludes followed each other as courtyard opened on courtyard.
a better mathematician is one who can see analogies between proofs and the best mathematician can notice analogies between theories. One can imagine that the ultimate mathematician is one who can see analogies between analogies. If you write any integer and sum the square of the digits, and repeat, eventually you get either 1, or 89. (ex: 16. \( 1^2 + 6^2 = 37. 3^2 + 7^2 = 58. 5^2 + 8^2 = 89 \). An Armstrong (or Pluperfect digital invariant ) number is a number that is... For example, 371 is an Armstrong number since \(3^3+7^3+1^3 = 371\). There are exactly 89 such numbers, including two with 39 digits. (115,132,219,018,763,992,565,095,597,973,522,401 is the largest) (Armstrong numbers are named for Michael F. Armstrong who named them for himself as part of an assignment to his class in Fortran Programming at the University of Rochester \). EVENTS. Its highly elliptical, 75-year orbit carries it out well beyond the orbit of Neptune and well inside the orbits of Earth and Venus when it swings in around the Sun, travelling in the opposite direction from the revolution of the planets. An Englishman, Edmond Halley predicted in 1705 that the comet that appeared over London in 1682 would reappear again in 1759, and that it was the same comet that appeared in 1607 and 1531. When the comet did in fact reappear again in 1759,.
I've decided to build a set of clocks to keep time on all 8 of the planets (I'm not going to keep time on Pluto because it is too erratic. I started thinking about this and I realized that there are several different types of 'time' one can consider. The first type of time is the most common we can consider how long it takes one of the planets to move based on where we are on earth. Since we are used to a 24 hour period that tells us about when the sun will come up and when the sun will set something like this would be the most useful for telling time on other planets. So one Earth second would indicate the Earth has rotated by a fixed number degrees while one Mars second would indicate that Mars has rotated by another fixed amount. In the context I am using this in means that a person ages differently on different planets due to the space-time fabric bending differently on that planet. This increments every time the earth completes a revolution around the sun. Gravitational time dilation implies that the actual rate we age in the time it takes the earth to rotate the sun will be different depending on where we are at in the universe. I will attempt it after I build the second type of clock. One can now imagine a 2 column by 8 row clock. The first column would show the time on each planet at the 0 degree point.
