On ABC, a repeat of “Grey's Anatomy” at 8 p.m. (#2: 3.7/ 6) led into a 5.6/ 9 (#1) for an original installment of the veteran medical drama from 9-10 p.m. Comparably, that was just seven percent below the 6.0/10 on the year-ago evening (when “Grey's ...

So - you support the England cricket team, you fork out for a Sky Sports subscription, and every now and again you wheel your creaking joints into action for a game on the village green. We'll be here throughout the season, to celebrate and bemoan the travails of being an English cricket fan. Whether you're jubilant at the team's triumphs, despondent at your own cricketing shortcomings, baffled by team selection, or angry at officialdom, there'll always be a seat for you around our table. If we’re going to look at who will become the new, and inaugural, director of England cricket – and in effect succeed Paul Downton – we need to start with first principles. Not coaches, managers or executives. Many of England’s recent problems stem directly from over-management, which has taken too much responsibility and autonomy away from the eleven men on the field. If so, the director’s responsibilities are to appoint the coaches and selectors, play a part in choosing the captain, oversee the coaching system, plan for the future, and integrate young players, but generally keep out of the way. The job is best done – can only be done – unglamorously and unobtrusively. Alternatively, the position is utterly hands-on, which means changing the whole set-up, so the director is also chair of selectors and not only makes the majority of the big coaching calls but.
Mrs Bennett: I use an App called 123d creature to effectively engage middle to lower achieving boys. Due to confidence issues I find some students are reluctant to engage in practical tasks such as drawing. By allowing use of the app (it is a virtual kiln where students can add pattern and colour etc), students are dealing with an interface they are familiar with (virtuality). Gives the students the confidence to move from the virtual to the physical process of making and problem solving. Mrs Sievers: The aim is to encourage pupils to become more confident, read the recipes, help each other and problem solve. I use this with yrs 7-11. Pupils are given 2 laminated hands at the start of the lesson. However the aim is for pupils to keep both hands, and work with more confidence, read the recipe and help each other, which results in them earning a merit. This one worked really well as the students didn’t even realise that they were considering the themes of Romeo and Juliet and this led to a good discussion about the characters. For revision after reading a novel, students identify five different characters from their text.
Magda was sitting on the upper deck of a bus in the traffic jam that called itself Wandsworth Road when her phone beeped three times. – but right now when she was wishing she had some alternative route home just wasn’t the right time for work to be calling. She pulled the phone out of the inside pocket of her Snow&Rock padded jacket and double-tapped the home button. It beeped again as custom software intercepted the phone’s usual behaviour and a pin pad screen appeared. She tapped in a code number and then a second one when the screen told her that the first one was incorrect. It was seven in the evening, she was in a traffic jam trying to get home and maybe, if she was lucky, find that her flatmate hadn’t eaten all of last night’s casserole, and now work wanted her to turn around and go back because there’d been a... She went to the exit doors and flipped the little plastic cover in the ceiling up, twisted the manual door-open switch there and stepped off the bus as the doors hissed open. She could hear the beeping as the driver tried to close them again, but two other people got off and onto the pavement before they were all closed again. Ridiculous really, to keep people trapped on the bus when it was going nowhere, but she’d read somewhere that the insurance rules required the drivers to only let people on and off at officially marked stops.
