Monday update: Stories you missed over the weekend - Casper Star-Tribune Online

Beth Tofte and her sister, Lisa Sanford, rested their heels on Hogadon lodge’s hearth and sipped hot drinks as the snow fell outside Wednesday afternoon. The women have skied Hogadon for 35 years, ever since Tofte moved to Casper. The ski area is close, and the price is right. Tofte and her sister would like the lodge to be cozier. After 18 months of uncertainty, the city of Casper is formally seeking proposals from architectural firms to find out what it would cost to design a new, 20,000-square-foot lodge. The city has taken some steps to improve the oft-neglected ski area, including the installation of a magic carpet lift, new snow guns and dredging of the pond used for snowmaking. But a new lodge is critical for the ski area to continue serving the 18,000 annual visitors, who are maxing out the facilities, according to ski area officials. “It’s unfunctional,” Chris Smith, the ski area manager, said before listing some of the problems. Mountain Sports doesn’t have enough room to accommodate rentals for the school district’s various ski programs, which means some schools are being left out.

The celebrity chef once owned a £25million home at the address and property tycoon Scot Young, who fell to his death this week from his flat in Marylebone, also owned an apartment there. London and the South East dominated the top 50 list of priciest streets – with the top ten all in the capital’s wealthy enclaves of Belgravia, Knightsbridge, Kensington, Chelsea and Notting Hill.

REWIND: Remember when a nation mourned... tribute to the Queen Mother - Swindon Advertiser

At about 6pm on Saturday, March 30, 2002, Buckingham Palace announced that the Queen Mother had died in the afternoon at Royal Lodge, Windsor. We reported: "A shadow of sombre remembrance was cast over the Easter celebrations in Swindon as people paid their respects to the Queen Mother, who died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday. Bishop of Swindon Michael Doe said: "Her life spanned the last century: born in the very different age of empire and deference, living through two world wars, playing a major role in the second to maintain the spirit of the nation, and having to... We recalled the Queen Mother's only known visit to Swindon, when she came Westlea to open the headquarters of the Bible Society. Adver reader Mike Shewry, 52, a forklift driver from Rodbourne Cheney, revealed that meeting the Queen Mother in 1966 had inspired him to join the Royal Navy. Mr Shewry had been a 15-year-old sea cadet when he took part in a guard of honour as Her Majesty launched nuclear submarine HMS Resolution in Barrow-in-Furness. He said: "She was chatty and didn't have that air of aloofness about her that some members of the Royal Family do. "It was almost like speaking.
