Kameha Grand, Switzerland - review

The drinks cabinet in my room is done up to look like a vault and there are coins over the back wall of the Puregold Bar. Lightshades are shaped like cowbells, sofas are turned out as Toblerones and allusions to clock mechanisms crop up here and there ...

My 2015 (and Beyond) Travel Wish List

Infinite Lindsay

Reading someone’s travel wish list can be a lot like listening to a friend’s retelling of a dream. One thing that sets travel dreams apart from ridiculous, run-of-the-mill nighttime ones is that you can actually make your travel dreams happen. Dreaming is just the beginning of the travel process. Lots of travel bloggers have been sharing their updated bucket lists in light of the new year. I’ve been thinking about my own a lot lately, so I thought I’d join in and share it. Here are 12 places I’ve been dreaming of, and hope to wake up in someday soon. China—specifically, The Great Wall—has been on my wish list for a long time. I’ve longed to walk along it and take it all in for myself. I’m also a sucker for cities, and the mega-city of Hong Kong (top photo) is the one I’d like to visit next. Ha Long Bay, Vietnam. Any place where mountains meet water makes my chest squeeze a little tighter and the hairs on the back of my neck a little pricklier. Add in the beautiful golden, ribbed sails of junk boats that dot its peaceful waters, and Ha Long Bay goes from simply stunning to something from another world.

In Japan that seems to mean the more red the better, especially when it comes to food. The single most defining thing about Japanese Christmas seems to be the strawberry. Whatever food you have, try to add something strawberry-ish in flavor or look – it’s sure to add the desired atmosphere. To get in you pass through a haunted house area to be met by a police officer who arrests the ‘bad’ person and leads you to your table/personal cell including a barred door. I found the whole experience very amusing, from the costumes of the prisoner-waiters to the menu with its choice of foods and cocktails which lived up to the theme. Lights off, black light on (my default nurturing nail polish was glowing brightly once again ><), sirens, top choice of music – and monster attack. They didn’t all stay outside, some came through the door, crawled over the wall, Frankenstein with his laser sword (. ) was especially persistent. Eventually the spectacle came to an end with the police officers overwhelming the monsters, which allowed us to once again focus on the menu and to enjoy the view as the blinds where being lifted. The main shrine is situated at the foot of a mountain and behind it meandering paths lead through a forest, past various other shrines on the mountain.
