That's how Vanderbilt coach Kevin Stallings described his team after the Commodores learned Sunday night they would play in the NIT. "We are going out here to practice right now to get ready for this," Stallings said Sunday night after receiving the NIT bid. "I haven't even met with the team yet about this, but we're preparing for it. I can already tell they are very, very excited to still be playing. "For this young team, this is very meaningful and a very good experience moving forward. 5 seed Vanderbilt will play at No. 4 seed Saint Mary's McKeon Pavilion in Moraga, Calif. The winner will face the winner of the first-round game between No. 1 seed Colorado State (27-6) and No. 8 seed South Dakota State (23-10). It will mark the Commodores' first postseason appearance in three years, the last coming in the 2012 NCAA... Vanderbilt last went to the NIT in 2006. This will be the program's 12th appearance in the NIT, including a 1990 tournament title and 1994 runner-up finish. But before that, the Commodores won eight of their last 10 games, including five straight. Saint Mary's will make its eighth straight postseason appearance, including five NCAA bids and three NIT berths. "We don't know too much about them yet, but I know they have a really good big kid," Stallings said.
