The Seychelles: the ultimate active archipelago?
I end my stay on Desroches with an afternoon of stand-up paddle boarding and wind surfing. The sea and sky merge seamlessly as the sun roasts me from every angle. Even losing my £500 sports camera to a rogue wave doesn't faze me. I am seriously ...

City: La Quinta. Occupation : Co-owner of Elizabeth & Prince, Palm Desert and La Quinta. Analisa and Shawn Holoubek started spending time in La Quinta many years ago, when Analisa's parents purchased a home there. The couple was living in New York City at the time, but enjoyed frequent escapes to the desert. ' We knew of a lot of beautiful designers in New York and L. A. that weren't represented here, and saw the opportunity to bring them in. ". The partners relocated to La Quinta and opened their first boutique in 2007. Elizabeth & Prince — named... 20th Century-Fox's Cinema Archives line of hard-to-find library and cult titles has recently been repackaging solo titles into triple features, usually grouped around a single performer, or a shared theme. triple feature, one could say the common link is either Anne Bancroft (appearing in two here: 1953's Tonight We Sing. from director Mitchell Leisen, with David Wayne, Ezio Pinza, Roberta Peters, Tamara Toumanova, the voice of Jan Peerce, and Isaac Stern, and 1955's A Life in the Balance , from Harry Horner, with Ricardo Montalban, Lee Marvin, Rodolfo Acosta, and... What all three movies have in common, though (outside of Fox's participation), is beyond me. A word about transfers, right up front. We all know there have been problems with some Fox Cinema Archives transfers for post-1953 movies either shot in a widescreen process or shot with the intention of being projected "wide. " A Life in the Balance was shot at Mexico City's Estudios Churubusco in early 1954, and released more than a year later in the summer of 1954. No widescreen process is credited on-screen, nor could I find any information on whether it was... and yet there's also a chance it was shot down in Mexico without thought for an eventual projection cropping.
My goggles and swim shorts are on and I’m setting my sights on the tiny outcrop of banyan and palm trees half a mile along the beach. Yesterday’s 12-hour flight from Heathrow to the tiny island of Desroches left me craving exercise and I’ve challenged myself to an island triathlon. The ocean is warm, translucent and peppered with tiny fragrant flowers that have dropped from the branches of the overhanging jelly fish trees. I feel like I’m swimming front crawl through a giant soup of potpourri, but splashing through the perfumed water quickly washes away the daze of yesterday’s long haul. I’m running along the spongy sand tracks that dissect the island but there’s no need for trainers here. The island’s 117-year-old, 40st giant tortoise, Big George, raises his wise and furrowed head from beneath the shaded undergrowth as I jog past. A three-mile run in the steamy tropics feels like a marathon. Rested, fed and rehydrated, I’m ready to embark on a dusk bike ride around the island. Can I clock up six to 10 miles before dinner. I am deliberately “carb loading” because today’s challenge is to kayak around the island.
