com/2015/02/17/new-artificial-lighting-tricks-human-brain-into-seeing-sunlight/. The alarm clock goes off, and suddenly day light shines through every corner of his room. Of course, since the television series is of the science fiction genre, the sunlight is actually an LED projection, no real sunshine whatsoever. For my third In the News assignment, I have chosen to discuss a scientific innovation in producing completely natural light for places that have no access to it. Picture yourself entering a second floor basement, and in the center of the ceiling... What sets this technology apart the most is that the light produced mimics the process of Rayleigh scattering, which occurs within the earth’s atmosphere where blue light is absorbed and the rest permeates through it. The Italian Company CoeLux... What they have invented is a form of phototherapy, along the same lines as Light Boxes, which happen to help with mood disorders such as depression (Mayo Clinic, 2015). Previous studies such as Keller & Matthew (2005) have found that pleasant... They were also able to pin point the exact quality of pleasant weather that has improved these variables in their participants, which was sunlight.
” Reading this piece, and every other piece the Times publishes on climate change, I have to ask myself, “Do these people know what the consensus states. Scientists, engineers and planners are seeking to understand the impact of new climate patterns, working to prepare our cities against the perils of rising storms and anticipating threats to our food, water supplies and national security. Scientific evidence has demonstrated that the global climate is warming as a result of increasing levels of atmospheric greenhouse gases generated by human activities. A pressing need exists for information that will improve our understanding of climate trends, determine the causes of the changes that are occurring and decrease the risks posed to humans and nature. (They are also concerned about the weather… ) Scientists (at least some) are worried, and are trying to think ahead. They want to be ready for “rising storms” and “threats to our food supply” (It speaks of threats and risks, not certainties. ) The earth is warming (or at least, it has warmed) as a result of industrial discharge of CO2. More research is needed on the causes and the risks.
I don’t like to do that to myself when every day has potential to be a good one no matter the projection you had on it from the day before. For some unknown reason, the only things that make me cry like a baby are funerals, military homecoming videos on Youtube, and seeing other people cry. I get worked up and flustered at most stressful pop-ups in my days -but I’m working on it. Since my neighbor and family-friend died suddenly a few weeks ago, the closed gates on my tear ducts have been healthfully opened. I woke up today, unprecedented, at five o’clock in the morning with tears already streaked down my pillow-marked cheeks, with that and the harsh goosebumps covering my arms and legs, I figured I might as well let one day be ruined from the start. I woke up two hours later, after falling asleep with swollen eyelids, to my alarm sounding “warm breeze. ” It was a nice sound to awaken to but it did nothing for me and my predisposed outlook on what the next twenty-four hours had in store for me. I did the typical routine: boiled some water, steeped tea, breakfast (although this was forced. my appetite has been plummeting since I vomited every last bit of the inside of my stomach last Friday), and sat in the crack of the shitty ass couch to look at the view of downtown Minneapolis from my window. Not only had I predicted the day’s dreariness, the weather confirmed it. A bleak, foggy and disgustingly grey image was projected in front of me. I can’t stand it. The construction workers buzz away, further demolishing one of the only reasons.
