Sam Maceo ran the Maceo Family crime syndicate, in Galveston, according to historians. Maceo is described in Ray Miller’s book, “Galveston,” as having always been “immaculately and expensively dressed” as well as "pleasant and courteous. GALVESTON - Her granddad had his secrets, Concetta Maceo was telling me a few days ago as we sat at a table inside the small family-run spice store and sandwich shop on Market Street. Rosario Maceo, who died in 2009 at age 91, took credit, in fact, for bringing the muffuletta to Galveston. If you know anything at all about the island city, you're likely to know that spice and the Maceo family go together - spice of a different sort, that is. The best-known of the Maceo brothers - Rose and Sam - were immigrants from Palermo who... And you can’t mention Tulsa in the music industry without making mention of KVOO, its history and the role the station continues to play in country music. Tulsa has certainly played a role in breaking a number of hit songs. The best known, go-to song would probably be “Tulsa Time” by Don Williams, but Eric Clapton and Reba McEntire also recorded it. A few others stand out. “Tell Me Something Bad About Tulsa” — George Strait, Merle Haggard and Noel Haggard have all recorded this song. That’s songwriting at its finest, and in the end, the songwriter can’t find anything bad about Tulsa. “Take Me Back To Tulsa” and “You’re The Reason God Made Oklahoma” would have to get a mention, as well.
