The photos from the first day of school never change: effervescent kids wearing brand-new clothes, hauling backpacks full of promise — sharpened pencils, glossy glue sticks and notebooks without a bored doodle in sight. That the photos get taken is something of a miracle, a nanosecond of stillness the kids grant before leaping into a new school year. But for now, the thrill of a fresh start propels them, perhaps further than they dream, but for now, onto the bus. The adults then retreat — to the office, the house, the job site — wondering, maybe, whatever happened to that “fresh start” feeling. But honestly, after a summer of dinners anywhere from 6 to 9 p. m. , of bedtimes flirting with midnight, of weekends that begin on Friday or stretch into Monday, the prospect of being ruled by the clock and the calendar can be a relief. Now’s the time to turn back the alarm clock another half-hour — OK, 15 minutes — to start that thing you’ve been meaning to start. Reclaiming a routine, far from feeling constraining, actually can feel like you suddenly have more time. Because we are grown-ups and know the value of a hard-earned $20, it’s not crucial to buy new. Then, having found that everything is looking a little careworn, buy something — even a belt, a scarf, some socks (see below). Wearing something for the first time is fun.
Associated Press NEW YORK (AP) - Vice President Joe Biden described himself Thursday as overwhelmed at times by his son's death and unconvinced he could commit fully to being president, in an emotional interview that cast a deep pall over his... Asked about his 2016 decision on "The Late Show," Biden said he'd be lying if he said he knew he was prepared to run following Beau Biden's death in May to brain cancer. "All of a sudden, I lost it," Biden said. He said White House hopefuls must be able to promise voters they can commit their whole heart, soul, energy and passion, and said, "I'd be lying if I said that I knew I was there. And I am, as I said, I'm optimistic, I'm positive about where we're going," Biden told Colbert. Biden had previously expressed doubts about whether he and his family have the emotional energy to run. Since his son's death, Biden has frequent peppered his speeches with references to Beau and the impressive resume he developed in his 46 years.
This time, we want to use IF, but keep it simple, looking at just one of its output functions, the notification. We were able to use the free web interface for last week, no worries, the Android app of IF by IFTTT is also free in the Google Play Store. All of the IF recipes we’ll look at today can be created on the web interface, but you will need the app installed on your Android device to actually receive the notifications. IF notifications If you recall how IF works, you head into it, create a trigger, or ‘If This’ action, then create an output action, or ‘Then That. Many of your favorite apps and services have IF channels – email, some social media, RSS feeds, dates and times and so much more. You can have IF publish to your social media, upload images to the cloud, send you email or SMS, or just have a simple notification pop up. This is what we will be working with today, a simple IF notification, triggered by a few sample ideas. Daily reminder notification While you may not want to rely on this as an alarm clock , IF can be used as an excellent reminder for your regularly scheduled routines.
