Inside an Imperial Fabergé egg - Telegraph.co.uk

Created by Carl Fabergé for the Russian Imperial family between 1885 and 1916, the precious eggs were seized during the Russian revolution and later sold or destroyed. As Fabergé prepares for the opening of its documentary, Fabergé: A Life of its Own , which explores the history of the Fabergé dynasty, we take a look at the exquisite surprises hidden inside nine of its prized Imperial Eggs. The Hen Egg, 1885. The first Imperial Fabergé Egg was commissioned as an Easter gift from Tsar Alexander III for his wife, the Empress Maria Fedorovna. A yellow gold yolk is hidden inside the gold egg’s enamelled shell. Third Imperial Egg, 1887. Continuing the tradition of giving his wife a precious egg every Easter, Tsar Alexander III presented the Empress with this 8. 2cm high golden egg in 1887. Decorated with gold garlands studded with blue sapphires and... Thought to be lost, the egg was rediscovered in 2011 when a scrap metal buyer – who had bought it at a bric-a-brac stall in America for $14,000 with a view to making easy money by selling it for its gold content – spotted a Telegraph article which...

The light powered by GRAVITY: Lamp uses energy from falling weight to illuminate homes without electricity GravityLight may help 1. 3 billion people who live without electricity supply When hung from a ceiling the device can produce light for 20... The GravityLight (illustrated above) uses a weighted bag which is attached to a hook to power a generator. This produces a tenth of a watt - enough to power an LED light and two smaller lights. Depending on the height it is installed at, it can produce 20 to 30 minutes of light before the weight needs lifting again using the rewind cord. The device is installed to the ceiling of a room and a bag filled with around 26ft (12kg) of rocks or sand is attached to a cord that runs through the unit.

ROYAL MEMORABILIA. My collection began in the Queen's Silver Jubilee year of 1977 when I bought a glass dish commemorating the Queen's coronation for 2½p. Now I have about 10,000 items of royal memorabilia filling four rooms in my house. One of those is the (Princess) Diana Room. There is a painting of her on the ceiling and stained glass windows show images of, among other things, Kensington Palace where she lived and Althorp Park where she is buried. The room is full of items including china and magazines. The carpet came from London's Lanesborough Hotel where Charles and Diana held staff parties. When it closed I bought several items and had to hire a furniture lorry to transport them home. My lounge has two tables packed with baby Prince George memorabilia while the corners of the room are dedicated to Prince Charles and Camilla, the Queen's coronation and the Queen Mother. Every year I gave flowers to the Queen Mother for her birthday. My Jubilee Room celebrates the Queen's silver, golden and diamond jubilees while the hallway contains everything associated with Prince Andrew, Fergie, Prince Edward and Sophie. And in the garage it's Queen Victoria and her descendants.
