Prague had been heartily recommended by friends who’d been over the years and so it was I found myself secretly booking seats 18A and B on a flight to the east European city of culture for myself and my daughter, Emily. It is not only the capital of the Czech Republic, but the country’s cultural, business and political centre and as such boasts an impressive number of cultural heritage sites, historic castles, palaces, abbeys and architectural monuments. Although the city is so compact you can easily walk most of it, Prague’s public transport network is cheap and efficient, and a daily travel pass even includes the funicular railway that runs from the Lesser Town up to the top of Petrin Hill. Prague Castle (Pražský hrad, or just hrad to the Czechs) is Prague’s most popular attraction, towering above the city with its gothic spires, towers and palaces. According to the Guinness World Records, it is the largest ancient castle in the world, covering a total area bigger than seven football fields. Within the castle walls a varied collection of historic buildings, museums and art galleries are home to some of the Czech Republic's greatest artistic and cultural treasures – but it was inside the enormous St Vitus’ Cathedral with its beautiful...
For the second time in as many months, City-County Council Republicans on Monday opted not to call for a vote on the facility, instead allowing the clock to run out on a contractual deadline. Barring an eleventh hour deal, the proposed criminal justice center will effectively be shelved until after the Nov. The Rules and Public Policy Committee condemned the proposal to purgatory last month, voting 6-2 along party lines not to send it to the full council. But Republicans mounted a last-ditch effort to salvage it. As late as Monday afternoon, some council members were still expecting to employ a procedural move to pull it out of committee for consideration. "While there is widespread agreement on the pressing need to address our city's outdated, inefficient criminal justice facilities, it is clear that there is no confidence that this proposal is affordable for taxpayers, and its time has passed,"... "The discussion did not move forward tonight at the full council, but the measure is still open for discussion in committee," said Adam Collins, the deputy mayor of economic development. But barring some concessions from the developer and a change of heart by council members, it's difficult to see a path forward.
Remember those old travel alarm clocks which would fold out from a pocket-sized, pillow-shaped package into a three-sided stand-up clock. Well I do, because that’s what my ever-frugal Nan used to use as a regular clock in the living room, and I never tired of folding and unfolding it – whenever she wasn’t around, at least. The handsome package folds up just like my Nan’s did, and even manages to hide a cute clock in behind the minimalistical grille. The Bluetooth speaker unfold from its leather clamshell and can be used as is. But in the package you’ll also find an FM radio, an alarm clock and a 3. 5mm jack to hook up non Bluetooth gear to the stereo speaker.
