Newcastle United defeat of Aston Villa adds to Tim Sherwood's despair
The scrappiest of afternoons concluded with Villa summoning no riposte to Papiss Cissé's first-half winner, leaving their new manager in the thick of a relegation fight. Although Newcastle are safe enough in mid-table this was also a big game for John ...

Alastair Cook has to find a special extra ingredient for England's attack if ...
England had a good day on Tuesday at the start of this second Test in conditions that suited them. If they go on to bat themselves into a strong position, they can look at it in one of two ways. England can be happy they are good enough to take wickets ...

Billion Dollars - Satan Bass EP [Free Download]
It's just every once in a while an artist comes along that allows the music to speak for itself. So it isn't necessarily us doing the speaking about what is going on, but the music we prefer to post about. When this EP came across my desk, shrilling ...

Fort's Wright glad Rockwell School was her place in life
“Life is so tough for some kids,” Wright lamented. “But they (kids) are very resilient. And if they can find a place where they feel safe, welcome and invited to be here — that this is home from 8 o'clock to 3 o'clock — we have a significant impact ...

Rob, London: Liverpool played like a mid-table club. After the departure of Luis Suarez I thought the defence would have to bolt up and stop conceding goals. We seemed to have done the opposite. Top four looks unlikely and is probably a contentious ...

(agnès was a board member of the institution at the time under the directorship of Alanna Heiss, and we happened to share a mutual admiration for Jonas’s life and work. ) Though it was only after our long and pleasurable conversation about her new film My Name Is Hmmm…— she came to the Rail HQ, the day after the premier screening at MoMA, with several friends who brought French cigarettes and a medium-sized... about how we live and celebrate the things we love most in life in relation to the community of friends and the world at large. The following is an edited version, which, for clarity and concision, leaves out the clever and interesting remarks of some others around the table. Phong Bui (Rail): I thought that your directorial debut, My Name is Hmmm… was a very serious film. I even designed the house where they live in the beginning in Studios de Joinville , which was built for Charles Pathé and Léon Gaumont around 1910. It’s located just outside of Paris, very close to suburbs where many famous films have been shot,... The big sofa and the TV were by the kitchen where most of the activity took place, as though they forgot about the dining room where they should be eating.
As the scale of the task facing him at Aston Villa became increasingly apparent, Tim Sherwood looked suspiciously like a man fighting the temptation to sprint on to the pitch and begin bossing midfield. The scrappiest of afternoons concluded with Villa summoning no riposte to Papiss Cissé’s first-half winner, leaving their new manager in the thick of a relegation fight. Although Newcastle are safe enough in mid-table this was also a big game for John Carver with his players suggesting they are still very much behind him in the wake of last weekend’s 5-0 debacle at Manchester City. “We were getting the ball wide, crossing and creating chances for Christian Benteke. Admittedly, on another day Villa might well have secured a draw but their final ball proved consistently wanting. “I never said it would be easy, I knew it would be tough and it’s getting tougher, but a win will come,” said Sherwood, still seeking his first point after two games in charge. There’s no lack of spirit in the dressing room , the boys really care but this is a massive football club and we’re under pressure. When Daryl Janmaat crossed from the right, Jores Okore failed to clear, leaving Cissé to control the bouncing ball before lashing his 11th goal of the season beyond Brad Guzan. Although Ashley Westwood contributed some superior, impressively incisive, passes from central midfield and Benteke forced Tim.
Alastair Cook has to find a special extra ingredient for England's attack if fortunes are to change away from home West Indies were 188 for five at the close of play on day one in Grenada Conditions suited England at the start of the second... England can be happy they are good enough to take wickets at home and when the ball is swinging and conditions are in their favour - like here. The biggest reason England have not won away from home since 2012 is that they are lacking something different in their attack. The whole of England’s bowling psyche is about containment, it’s about bowling maidens and building pressure, as we saw for much of the first day here in Grenada until West Indies started to crack.
