A working label does not describe the test, while NOS describes inventory age and packaging rather than present electrical condition. Match the model code, request current photos, and verify every alarm, tuner band, display segment, speaker, projector, and button. Check the cord, backup compartment, antenna, manual, odors, yellowing, corrosion, return terms, and package contents. Two listings of ICF-C1PJ can differ materially in wear and included parts.

The Sony records generally identify two alarms, but their schedule options and independent source or volume controls are often missing. ICF-C1T states a gradual buzzer and extendable snooze; the compact Sony lists radio or buzzer, gradual waking, and roughly ten-minute snooze. Emerson models provide dual radio-or-buzzer alarms, while uscce adds weekday, weekend, and seven-day schedules with multiple sounds and nine-minute snooze. Westclox names dual alarms but leaves source and schedule unclear. Verify whether each alarm retains its own time, source, volume, and day pattern before sharing it.

The Kubicle Sony and black compact Sony state ten AM/FM presets. ICF-C1PJ listings add projection and nature sounds, whereas ICF-C1T uses an analog AM/FM tuner. Westclox is FM-only with twenty presets. Both Emerson alternatives offer twenty AM/FM presets; uscce is FM-only but adds continuous dimming, temperature, headphone output, and two USB ports. Display color and brightness differ: Sony listings include white, mirrored, large LED, or orange formats; alternatives use jade, blue, red, or LCD. Confirm viewing angle, lowest brightness, antenna, and local station reception.

Most of these clocks require continuous wall or USB power. Emerson lists included backup cells for time recovery, Westclox requires two excluded AAA batteries, and uscce uses three excluded AAA batteries that can run its alarm and radio but not USB charging. The Sony records do not consistently identify backup type or outage behavior, even where a title mentions backup. Ask whether the display stays lit, the alarm still sounds, presets survive, and automatic time resets after power returns. Also verify adapter inclusion and voltage, because a memory cell is not evidence that the clock operates normally away from an outlet.
