Howard Miller 613-153 Triple Chime Westminster Whittington St. Mich Wall Clock
This is Howard Miller’s 613-153 wall clock. It’s one of their better wall clocks with the triple chime movement, the heavy beveled glass, and the over the top marquetry. Cosmetically the clock is very good. I don’t see any issues. It’s an attractive presentation. Mechanically speaking, the clock is mostly untested and being sold as found. It was not hung, but it was wound, and all of the springs held. When the hands were cycled it chimed on the 1/4’s and at the top of the hour. There is a tick when the crutch is shifted. It’s being sold unrestored, and as found. It’s a beautiful clock in great condition and priced to sell so don’t miss it! It’s a pretty rare model too!

Does Westminster wording always identify a chime melody?
No. Westminster can appear as a melody name, a brand name, or part of a London-themed decorative title. Require explicit chime or melody wording before treating a product as a chiming clock. Whittington should likewise be named in the exact offer rather than inferred from a general dual-chime description. Keep the melody claim tied to the selected listing, because a city image or Westminster-branded silent wall clock serves a different purpose.
Which products belong on a wall rather than a mantel?
Schoolhouse and pendulum titles often state wall-clock placement, while mantel and shelf clocks depend on a level surface. Decorative printed clocks may hang on a wall yet provide no chime at all. Compare full dimensions, depth, weight, rear hardware, pendulum clearance, and access for batteries or winding. Do not classify a mantel clock as wall-mounted simply because its case and chime functions resemble those of a traditional hanging model.
What chime controls should be verified before purchase?
Check the named melodies, hourly or quarter-hour schedule, volume adjustment, manual silence option, and any automatic night shutoff. A title that says Westminster chime may not document all of those controls, while a triple-chime mechanism may still require model-specific setup. Confirm whether the pendulum and chime are independently controlled and whether the source describes battery or key-wound operation. Missing control details belong in the final offer check, not in assumed copy.
How should movement and case details be compared?
Start with the seller-stated movement, power arrangement, and installation format. Then compare real wood, veneer, faux wood, metal, or plastic wording without upgrading a finish into a construction claim. Dial readability, glass coverage, case projection, and pendulum travel affect fit but are not interchangeable with the advertised face size. Use the exact model identity when checking replacement batteries, winding instructions, hanging hardware, and clearance around furniture or doors.
